Social is always changing, and we, as marketers, need to adapt with the ever fluctuating algorithm or network du jour.   There's no better time than a new year to ask yourself how you can step up your social media game. From great visuals to better community management, we break down five good social media habits for 2018.

Plan Ahead. With social media marketing, it’s important to note you don’t post just to post. In this case, quality over quantity. Planning social content means taking the time to think through content that will actually drive results.

Questions to think about while planning include:

  • What value does this content bring to the reader?

  • Are you making use of each platforms strengths?

  • Does the content tie back to your business goals?

  • Have you seen what performed well in the past?

Invest in Imagery. It’s vital to use engaging imagery that will catch people's attention and showcase your company or product in the best light. This includes, hi-res photos, videos, quotes and gifs. Certain images will work better on certain networks, so be sure to test and learn.

Respond in a Timely Manner.  If you're going to be present make sure you are listening and responding.   You must have the ability to stimulate discussion and connect with others, and do so in a timely manner. Social platforms should be an engaging experience that further connects people with your brand.

Try Something New. They say nothing good ever happens in your comfort zone, so try something new if engagement isn’t currently as high as you’d like. For example, try a live stream or a behind-the-scenes Instagram story. You won't know how your fanbase will respond until you try it out.

Support with ad dollars. Thanks to Facebook’s algorithm, organic reach is fairly low. Make sure you set aside some ad dollars to support your content. If you’re creating great content and no one sees it, then what’s the point?
